Changing the Boot Sequence ”LILO

LILO, which is short for Linux Loader, controls the boot sequence for your computer once you've installed Lindows. It loads the operating system into memory, and then starts it up. If you have both Lindows and Windows installed on your computer, you'll notice that Lindows shows up as number 1 in the boot sequence. If you'd prefer to have Windows show up as the first choice in the boot sequence, you can modify LILO.

  1. Click on the File Manager icon . The File Manager will open .

  2. Double - click on the etc folder . The contents of the folder will appear in the right pane.

  3. Scroll down until you see the lilo.conf file.

  4. Double - click on the lilo.conf file . The Text Editor will open, allowing you to modify the file.

  5. Look for a line starting with other= . Take note of what is written after label= in that section. Depending on what Windows operating system you are using, there will be different labels. For Windows 98, it should read label=W<>_98.

  6. Click at the end of the line labeled timeout=100.

  7. Press Enter . This will start a new line.

  8. Type default=W<>_98 . Replace W<>_98 with whatever followed label= in step 5.

  9. Click on the Save button .

  10. Press Alt+F4 to close the Text Editor.

  11. Click on the Launch button . The Launch menu will appear.

  12. Click on Programs . A list of programs will appear.

  13. Click on Utilities . A list of utility programs will appear.

  14. Click on Console . The Console program will launch.

  15. Type the word lilo .

  16. Press Enter . A few lines of text will appear.

  17. Click on the X in the topright corner to close the Console. The next time you reboot, the boot sequence will change so that Windows is first in the boot order.
