Printing and Printer Settings

Almost every application within Lindows allows you to print, and most work in the same way. During the print process, you can set up and manipulate specific options for each of your printers. With these settings you can control things like the size of the paper, the type of paper, and the resolution.

  1. Click on the Launch button. The Launch menu will appear.

  2. Click on Programs . A list of program categories will appear.

  3. Click Business & Finance . A submenu of programs will appear.

  4. Click on Text Editor . The Text Editor will launch. Keep in mind that you don't have to use the Text Editor to print a document. You can print from any application. We are just using the Text Editor as an example.

  5. Type some text . You need to put something on the page in order to print.

  6. Click on File . The File menu will appear.

  7. Click on Print . The Print dialog box will open . Alternatively, many applications have a Print icon that you can click on the toolbar to launch the Print dialog box.

  8. Click on Properties . This is an optional step that will allow you to change some printer settings before you print. The Configuration dialog box will open.

  9. Click on the down arrow beside Page size. A list of different supported paper sizes for your printer will appear.

  10. Click on the desired paper size .

  11. Click on the radio button beside your desired paper orientation. The little K icon will preview the orientation.

  12. Click on the radio button beside your desired number in the Pages per sheet area. This is a great option if you want to save some paper.

  13. Click on OK . You will return to the Print dialog box.

  14. Click on the down arrow beside the Printer Name field. A list of different printers will appear.

  15. Click on the desired printer . This step is only required if your printer was not already selected.

  16. Click on the Expand button . This will display more options for printing.

  17. Click on the up or down arrow to increase or decrease the number of copies you'd like to make.

  18. Click on the desired page selection .

    Note  

    If you select the Range option, you must separate the pages you want to print by a hyphen for consecutive pages and a comma for nonconsecutive pages. For example, if you wanted to print pages 5 through 9 and page 12, you would enter 5 “9, 12 in the Range box.

  19. Click on Print . Your document will be sent to the printer.

    Note  

    Each program that you print from works a bit differently. Some will display a dialog box after the job has been sent to the printer, letting you know it has been printed. Some programs may have additional dialog boxes before the print process.
