Summary

9.3 Summary

Risks are present in every facet of software development and maintenance. Types of risks include technical, managerial, operational, environmental, and testing. Each type may impact other types, so none is isolated by itself.

Risk management is a four-step process that involves identifying, assessing, and responding to risks, as well as planning a course of action should the risk occur. Determining the actual response to each risk is important and includes consideration of the risk exposure and the cost to respond to that exposure.

The risk management process culminates in the preparation of a risk management plan for both the project and organization.
