Overview

Hide not your talents, they for use were made. What's a sundial in the shade?
-Benjamin Franklin

One of the most important concerns at this point in the history of web design is figuring out how to use CSS in ways that produce the variety of sites we need.

This means that we must use CSS in practical as well as visionary ways. The true ability of designers working with CSS at this writing is largely yet to be revealed, but many interesting designs have come to fruition in the past several years.

To inspire and drive your design ideas, I've chosen what I feel are good CSS examples that address the range of visual design that you might need to accomplish your goals.

In this chapter you'll explore sites that show off:

  • Information-rich design

  • Visual design and promotions

  • Tricks and effects using CSS
