Where to Get Java

Sun Microsystems holds the copyright for Java, and it licenses other companies (such as IBM) to use Java on their computer systems and enable them to create a JVM specific to each system. Developers who wish to create Java applications can obtain a Standard Development Kit (SDK) from Sun at http://www.java.sun.com. There are three separate versions of the SDK:

  • J2ME–Java Micro Edition. This version of the SDK is designed for use in small devices.

  • J2SE–Java Standard Edition. This is the most commonly used version of the SDK.

  • J2EE–Java Enterprise Edition. This version includes all the features of the J2SE and also includes support for EJBs, Servlets, JSPs, and XML.

To install Java on your i5 server, use the command GO LICPGM and install program product 5722JV1.
