1.3 What This Book Is Not

This is not a ColdFusion book. This book assumes that you are a knowledgeable ColdFusion developer; as such, it does not teach ColdFusion or new features found in ColdFusion MX. There are many good books for that.

Java is a lot to learn. It would be very difficult to cover all aspects of the language. This book covers significant aspects of the Java language, with an emphasis on the areas that Web developers need to work with most; it does not cover AWT or Swing in much depth. These are aspects of GUI development that you will have no trouble learning on your own after finishing this book. It also does not cover Enterprise JavaBeans in much depth. EJBs are, as their name avows, an advanced aspect of enterprise development, and again, you will be readily prepared to learn them once you've completed this book.

Java for ColdFusion Developers will give you enough information to be comfortable moving into greater depth and specificity on any aspect of Java, whether it is server side, software development, or Web development.
