Who Should Read This Book

This book is designed to support two audiences. The first is the solution designers, architects or engineers that are considering the deployment of VSE technologies, and the second is the project managers, engineers and administrators that are tasked with the job of implementing one or more of these VSE technologies.

If you are an architect looking for information on how to design a solution using the VSE, you will be able to get a solid overview of the VSE technologies from the first two chapters of each part of the book. You can then go to the product detail chapters which follow for more information on the products that appear to be a good fit for your requirements.

If you are an administrator, you probably already know what products you need more information on, so you can go straight to the product detail chapters, which will provide guidance and examples of using the products to solve real problems.

This book is written with the expectation that the reader will already have a basic understanding of systems architecture and systems administration. An understanding of basic virtualization concepts would be helpful, but is not required.

Readers of this book will benefit from a general understanding of HP-UX, Linux, and Windows system administration. The book focuses on the VSE technologies, and thus does not attempt to address basic operating system technologies and system administration techniques.
