Red Hat began its spin-off Fedora Project (http://fedora.redhat.com) to work with the Linux community to produce a complete, robust general-purpose operating system. The idea was to create an outstanding Linux distribution with the latest software, to let any developer contribute to the evolution of the operating system, and to speed up the OS-development process. The Fedora Project's own Web site (http://fedoraproject.org) is filled with information about the various parts of the Fedora Project, and it has links to downloads, documentation, and FAQ. Fedora Core Linux is a direct descendant of Red Hat Linux and a sibling of Red Hat Enterprise. It's shaping up to be one of the best user-friendly Linux distributions, which is why we're covering it in this book. This appendix will show you how to get Fedora Core Linux, how to install it, and how to keep it up-to-date. |
