Troubleshooting in IIS 6 can be an involved process. In previous versions of IIS, all the functionality and all the components of IIS were enabled in a default installation. With Microsoft’s new “off by default” mentality, you need to take care to make sure that all the necessary components are enabled. IIS is integrated into the operating system and touches many parts of it. If you find that you need to do some troubleshooting, you may need to look at the following to find the source of the problem:
Log files
MIME mappings
Dynamic web content
Permissions issues
Worker processes
Web service shutdown
