Epilogue

for RuBoard

The next morning came too soon. "I'll make this short and sweet," my boss began . "You shouldn't have been working in the storeroom." My heart sank. "I stopped by there again this morning and was surprised at what I found. Come with me." He rose from behind his desk and motioned for me to follow. I followed him silently down the familiar hall toward the storeroom like a sheep on its way to slaughter.

He walked up to the storeroom door, paused momentarily, then unlocked the door immediately adjacent to it. He stepped in, flipped on the light and motioned for me to step in myself . Then he said, "This is your new spot. You showed some initiative and ingenuity in setting up your cubbyhole next door. We need those kinds of things around here. You should have come to me if you had a problem. Next time, be sure you do." And with that, he placed the key in my hand and left me standing speechless in the center of my very first private office.
