A Good Start: 802.11b

Inexpensive and reliable, 802.11b can help you get started with wireless networking. It's efficient (faster than your Internet connection) and easy to use.

However, 802.11b isn't the only wireless networking technology available. Other 802.11 wireless networking technologies are becoming more common. And you can use infrared light to connect laptops and PDAs or to print from a laptop.

The 802.11b standard isn't going anywhere soon, and its widespread adoption will likely complement the rest of the technologies explained in this chapter.

Next we consider using 802.11b to get your PDA connected to your network.
