Summary

This chapter explored the basics of CORBA and the different services that CORBA provides. Among these services is a security service that provides different levels of security. In addition, the SECIOP package provides interoperability security and the Common Secure Interoperability (CSI) package provides additional levels of security for interoperability. The different CSI levels that different protocols provide for your applications were listed. For instance, the GSS Kerberos protocol provides CSI level 1 but also can be used for level 0. The RMI protocol, its security, and how it can use IIOP for the transport protocol to bridge to CORBA were also discussed.

Finally, Enterprise JavaBeans were explored first by discussing the different types of EJBs that you currently encounter and giving a brief description of their life cycle. The chapter finished with a discussion of authentication and authorization in the J2EE architecture and a description of how the container provides the security mechanisms for EJBs.
