ISDN Simulator Configuration

To configure the Black Box ISDN Simulator, you need to install the configuration tool on a PC or laptop and then connect to the ISDN simulator with the serial cable provided. You also must configure the correct properties for the ISDN switch.

To install the configuration software provided by Black Box, remove the 3.5-inch floppy labeled ISDN Simulator Configuration Software for Windows. Place it into the floppy drive, initiate the setup.exe program, and accept the default values during the installation process. When the installation is complete, connect the serial cable (RS-232 to DB 9) to the back of the ISDN simulator and to your COM1 port on the PC, and initiate the configuration program previously installed (DLS Configuration is the name of the program within the Windows Start menu).

After the configuration program has fully loaded and retrieved the current configuration off the ISDN simulator, set the values to match those shown in Figure D-2, and click the Download button. This downloads the configuration to the ISDN switch.

NOTE

The initial configuration will show QUERY in the Configuration Name property box, meaning that the configuration program has queried the ISDN simulator for its current configuration parameters. You can disregard this for now. Change the other values; when you save the configuration, it will then prompt you to name the configuration file.

When this is complete, you can choose to save the configuration in case the ISDN simulator loses its configuration in the future. You might want to save the configuration file to something meaningful, such as CCNA Lab.
