Saving Movies

Once you've finished creating your movie, it's a good idea to save it right away and each time you make any changes to it. To save your movie, choose File, then Save, Save As, or Save As Template. Once you've saved your document, you can publish it to the Web by selecting File, Publish from the top menu bar. This creates a new file with the .swf (small Web format) file extension. This published SWF file is the one used or embedded in Web pages, or it can be used as a stand-alone application. Once a file has been published into an SWF file, all the assets become embedded and cannot be extracted from the file.

For detailed coverage of the functionality and attributes of the publishing process, see Chapter 16, "File Size Optimization."
