Chapter 7.  Column Five: Timing

Conclusion

Entity life histories bring together in one model the entity types (object classes), events, activities, and activity fragments that constitute an organization's essential activities. They present the effects of events and activity fragments on entity types in more business-oriented terms than does a simple function/entity type matrix, and they prepare the way for the object-oriented thinking about the behavior of entity types.

Entity life histories are particularly useful when significant entity types have sequential behavior. This is especially true when analyzing how sequences may be broken and how they can be repaired.
