HOW TO RECOGNIZE A SPIN

Since people are going to be people, and emotions are not going away, how can you recognize when an emotion is just something of the moment or a sign that something else should be managed? To begin any discussion about people and their feelings it must be said that there are individuals who thrive on the emotions associated with light and hope, growth and creativity. There are others who thrive on the emotions of despair and darkness , death and destruction. There are people who thrive on working within the flow of growth with strong or weak positive energies and others who thrive on working against the flow of growth with equally strong or weak energy. There are people who are aggressively or passively seeking growth and others, equally aggressive or passive, which are pulled toward destruction. The reasons for this and the ranges of behaviors and practices are as varied as are the people involved. Psychologists and social scientists have many theories , but suffice it to say that both kinds of people work in all areas of commerce and service and can be found in all cities and walks of life. Some people jump at life and others aggressively dig their heels into life and refuse to move forward with it. Some people leap toward death and dig their heels into it and hope that someone will keep them company and join their misery. There are people who like to Rain on everyone's Parade, and there are people who like Parading on everyone's Rain. Some people seek transformation and others refuse to change. People are people.

Extreme behaviors can be a first recognition sign of an impending workplace spin event. Extreme positions do not lend themselves to the necessary flexibility of workplace demands. An unwillingness or inability to adjust to necessary changes within a reasonable adjustment time frame is not conducive to workplace productivity. In truth, there is no correct timeframe for someone to adjust to change. Time is an artificial arrangement loosely agreed upon by socialized people and is not cross-cultural. Time demands in a competitive workforce suggest that people need to adjust rather quickly. Resistance can be a sign that a spin is starting. Recognizing the attributes of spinning takes some practice. Workplaces are not intended to be counseling offices, confessionals, churches , temples, cathedrals, mystical retreat centers or Aunt Sophie's kitchen table. Attending to every emotional problem is not Emotional Continuity Management. Work is where work is meant to happen. Emotional Continuity Management is intended to increase rapid recovery as a necessary practice to keep things moving. Recognition of emotions and spinning is a management task.
