Chapter 7. The Sequencer The Sequencer

By this point you're probably ready to start producing a Reason song of your own. For this you'll need a device that will record your performances; this is the job of the sequencer. The sequencer works something like a multi-track tape recorder, recording the performance of each Reason device on a separate sequencer track. Unlike a tape machine, however, the sequencer records digital data (MIDI) instead of audio. This data basically consists of commands that tell Reason's devices what to do and when to do it. In addition to recording and playing back performances, the sequencer allows you to edit your performances . In this chapter, you'll learn how to:

Record your performance to the sequencer.

Record device automation.

Perform edits in the Arrange mode.

Perform edits in the Edit mode.

Detach and resize the sequencer windows .
