Initializing a Device

[ LiB ]

While working on the different exercises with the devices throughout this book, there is a good chance that the sounds you create may become unpleasant due to all the changes you're able to makesometimes once you start tweaking parameters, it's hard to stop! So, to begin each exercise with a clean palette, you will initialize the devices often. Initializing brings the instrument back to its default state, giving you a fresh starting point. NOTE

As you learn about Reason's devices, you'll soon notice that many of them share common features. I will cover the parameters for each device but will move quickly through the explanation of any parameters and controls that have already been discussed.

NOTE

As you follow the exercises in this chapter and the chapters to follow, it's a good idea to start with an empty rack each time you begin working with a new device. That way, you won't need to worry about re-routing the audio each time you add a device to the rack. I will cover audio routing in detail later. To make this even easier for you, I recommend choosing Empty Rack as the default when creating a new song. Refer to Chapter 1 for more details on how to do this.
