All of Reason's Sound Modules allow you to select patches, or sounds, to play. You can either load a preset patch from Reason's factory CDs or from other sources, such as third-party ReFills, or you can create, save, and reload your own patches. Loading and saving works the same in each of Reason's devices.
Later in this chapter you'll get a close look at the SubTractor Analog Synthesizer, but first you should load it into the rack so that you understand how to load and save patches and also how to initialize devices.

NOTE
The File Type menu in the Save Synth Patch window will automatically add the file extension that is relevant to the device you used to create the patch. These patch files can be opened only in the same device.
