Exporting Data Sources to Another Format

Use this procedure if you need to convert a data source you're using in OpenOffice.org to a database in another application. This assumes that the other application can import delimited text files.

Basic Exporting

  1. Move a database table into a Calc spreadsheet. See Using the Data Pilot to Make a Spreadsheet With Automatic Totals on page 516.

  2. Save the spreadsheet as a delimited text file. Importing a Text File or Spreadsheet on page 513.

If the other application can import dBase files, you can also save the spreadsheet as a dBase file.

Converting to Writer, RTF, and HTML Tables

To convert a database table to a table in a Writer, HTML, or RTF (Rich Text Format) document, open the document in OpenOffice.org, hold down the Shift key, and drag a table from the Explorer window into a document.

If you want more control over which database fields are added to the table, drag the database table into the document without holding down the Shift key. In the Insert Database Columns window, select the fields you want to include.
