Setting Up Impress to Make Creating and Opening Presentations Easier

Completing these procedures will make life simpler when you start using Impress.

Turning Off Automatic AutoPilot

AutoPilot is a powerful "wizard" tool that lets you define many of the features of a new presentation. However, it appears with somewhat annoying and surprising frequency (under File > New, primarily). You can always get to AutoPilot by choosing File > AutoPilot, so you'll probably find it more convenient to keep it from coming up when you choose File > New.

  1. Choose Tools > Options > Presentation > General.

  2. Deselect the Start with AutoPilot option.

Adding Places to Look for Impress Files

AutoPilot has a window that lists the templates and presentations you can base your new presentation on. However, it's pretty exclusiveit only looks in a few locations.

Note

If you're in a multi- user system, the template folders are typically on the server, not among your own local files.

If you're on a multi-user system and have created your own templates in a different folder, for instance, you won't be able to see them in AutoPilot. Follow these steps to add the locations where you store Impress templates, presentation backgrounds, and presentations.

  1. Choose Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Paths.

  2. In the list of paths, select Templates.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. In the Select Paths window, click Add.

  5. Navigate to a folder where you store Impress templates, such as your program work folder ( office/user/work ) and click Select. Add any other folders.

  6. Click OK in the Select Paths and Paths windows .

The folders you added will show up in AutoPilot with the name Templates.
