Quick Start

If you've got the software on CD from this book or another source and you're just installing on your own machine, stick the CD in the drive. The installation program should start automatically; if it doesn't, just navigate to install/ platform and double-click the setup or setup.exe file. (For software obtained via download, the directory structure might be different.) Follow the directions on screen.

• If you've been using StarOffice 6.0 beta, you must remove it before installing. See "Removing StarOffice 6.0 Beta Software Before Migrating" on page 44.

• If you've been using StarOffice versions prior to the beta, you must be on StarOffice 5.2, not a prior version.

• If you've been using StarOffice 5.2 Mail as your mail program, you must select the option labeled Migrate your personal data from StarOffice 5.2. See "Migrating Your StarOffice 5.2 Mail to Another Mail Program" on page 47 for more information.

Note on WordPerfect

StarOffice 6 for Windows has WordPerfect filters; these are proprietary to a third party so could not be included in the open source product. Star Office 6.0 for UNIX does not have WordPerfect filters. If you have StarOffice 5.2 and OpenOffice.org 1.0, open WordPerfect files in StarOffice 5.2, save them in StarOffice format, then open them in OpenOffice.org 1.0.
