Viewing and Editing HTML Source

Before you begin, complete the HTML Document setup, particularly in the window on page 435, which lets you determine the colors for different types of tags in the HTML source. Choose Tools > Options > Load/Save > HTML Compatibility.

You can edit the HTML source directly in Web; you don't need to open the HTML file in a text editor. Just choose View > HTML source, click the Edit File icon in the function bar, and make your changes. Then deselect the HTML source in the View menu and save changes.

To get the HTML source into a separate file, you can copy and paste, or choose File > Export source.

The file must be saved in order to view the source; if nothing shows up, check to be sure you've saved the file at least once already. Also be sure that the icon in the titlebar is a Netscape-like icon; it might be a "Writer/Web" document, which ain't HTML.
