Using FTP and Netscape to Upload Files

You should be able to just type the FTP target you want into the Load URL field and press enter. It works for HTTP. We couldn't get it to work for FTP. (Former 5.2 users, you might get weird messages with OpenOffice.org looking for your soffice.exe . Disassociate OpenOffice.org from any actions that start with URL, such as URL:HTTP. In Windows, this is usually under Folder Options.)

However, there are bunches of free FTP programs, such as CuteFTP. You can also just use Netscape.

  1. In a regular browser, type the URL in the browser field. ftp:// userID:password @ site . For example, ftp://joy:hotbeans@softcorejava.com

  2. The site will come up, as shown in Figure 14-4.

  3. To upload a file, choose File > Upload.
