Displaying Errors in Internet Explorer

When an error occurs in Internet Explorer, it is quite a bit more obvious than in Netscape. A little yellow warning icon will appear in the lower left of the browser's status bar when any error occurs on the page. You can see the yellow icon in Figure 13.4.

Double-clicking this icon will bring up Internet Explorer's version of error display, which is shown in Figure 13.5. Although not as friendly as Netscape, this window will tell you the type of error that occurred and exactly where it occurred in the source file.

If the status bar is set to invisible, either in your code or because the client wanted it that way, you will need to make it visible again. To do that, open Internet Explorer's View menu and choose Status Bar.

Just as with Netscape, you can view the source of any Web page viewed in Internet Explorer. Once the page fully loads, you can open the View menu and select Source to open a Notepad window with the page's full source code.
