Improvement Basics

As you install and build a PostNuke site, keep track of which modules and features you will need and those you can disable. Some modules also generate more load than others.

The Autolinks feature, which adds dynamic hyperlinks to words in many PostNuke modules, specifically can have a serious impact on site performance. If you can live without it, disable it. The HTTP Referers module that records the pages or bookmarks from which visitors originate is not needed at all if you have access to your logs and a stats package. And if you are using Really Simple Syndication (RSS) blocks to get news or other information posted on your site, stagger the updates and add a timeout to the socket.

After you have a fairly stable set of modules you use, you can also completely remove extra modules from your server. Deleting them from the /html/modules/ folder prevents them from being loaded by PostNuke altogether.

Tip

A common tip for high-traffic websites is to generate static HTML pages. The load time of your more popular pages, such as your home page, can be cut to a few seconds this way. Simply generate your PostNuke page normally, and then save the page source as a separate file. Visitors going to the flat HTML will still see exactly the same content as those traveling to the normal page.
