Troubleshooting

Permissions in PostNuke can be a tricky business. The best advice is to perform simple changes before complex changes. Lay out your intended structure before you make any changes, and then test each change as you make it to be certain the entries and their positions work well with one another.

Trouble with Resource Identification

A common problem when setting> permissions is name confusion. Some resources possess two-word names, and they might be separated by a space, an underscore, or simply run together without a break. Three places can serve to provide you with options and ideas to confirm resource names.

The first place to go is the dynamic Component/Instance table reached through the links in the header of the main table. This list of Components and Instances is by far the clearest set of examples.

For a second option, try the Modules page. It details the difference between the name you see on the screen and the real name of a given module. The Blocks Administration page can also be used to determine both resource and instance names similar to the Modules table.

Fatal Error: Cannot Redeclare... In Permissions Pop-Up

If you have clicked the Component or Instance link in the Permissions table in an effort to get the currently installed resources list, but instead find the pop-up is filled with a "Cannot Redeclare" error, the problem is likely a backed-up file in the includes directory confusing PostNuke.

It's a good idea to duplicate files and save originals as you perform edits, but although most folders are relatively safe for duplicate storage, the includes directory is scanned and imported in its entirety. If you duplicate a file in there, it is added twice, possibly causing this error.
