Prima's user interface is designed to make viewing and using the CD contents quick and easy. The opening screen contains a two-panel window with three buttons across the bottom. The left panel contains the structure of the programs on the disc. The right panel displays a description page for the selected entry in the left panel. The three buttons across the bottom of the user interface make it possible to install programs, view the contents of the disc using Windows Explorer, and view the contents of a help file for the selected entry. If any of the buttons are "grayed out" it means that button is unavailable. For example, because there are no help files for any of the items on this CD, the Help button is always grayed out.
As with any window, you can resize the user interface. To do so, position the mouse over any edge or corner, hold down the left mouse button, and drag the edge or corner to a new position.
To close and exit the user interface, either double-click on the small button in the upper left corner of the window or click on the exit button (marked with a small "x") in the upper right corner of the window.
The left panel of the Prima user interface works very much like Windows Explorer. To view the description of an entry in the left panel, simply click the entry. For example, to view the general information about Prima Publishing, Inc., click the entry Prima-Tech.
Some items have subitems that are nested below them. Such parent items have a small plus (+) sign next to them. To view the nested subitems, simply click on the plus sign. When you do, the list expands and the subitems are listed below the parent item. In addition, the plus (+) sign becomes a minus (-) sign. To hide the subitems, click the minus sign to collapse the listing.
Note | You can control the position of the line between the left and right panels. To change the position of the dividing line, move the mouse over the line, hold down the left mouse button (the mouse becomes a two-headed arrow) and drag the line to a new position. |
The right panel displays a page that describes the entry you chose in the left panel. Use the information provided to provide details about your selection, such as what is shown in a ScreenCam movie.
Install. Use this button to install the program corresponding to your selection onto your hard drive.
Read File. If the item you are viewing in the left panel includes an Adobe Acrobat file (*.pdf), the Install button becomes the Read File button. Clicking the Read File button opens the file in Adobe Acrobat, providing you have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer.
Explore. Use this button to view the contents of the CD using the Windows Explorer.
Help. This button is not active on this CD.
Install. If the selected title contains an install routine, choosing this option begins the installation process.
