The vision behind Firefox was to create a great browser that is just that: a great browser. Not a great browser that also includes an email program and a chat client and a million other widgets. Just a browser that, out of the box, delivers an easy-to-use, highly functional web experience that is second to none. However, the programmers realized that different users have widely differing needs; consequently, they made sure that Firefox is extensible, so other developers can create add-ons that add new and interesting functionality to the browser. In this chapter, we'll look at three categories of add-ons: plug-ins, themes, and extensions. |
