Basic Navigation in Access


This section discusses the keyboard shortcuts that you can use for navigating in most objects in Access. Beyond these common keyboard shortcuts, most objects support shortcuts of their own; you ll meet these shortcuts later in this chapter.

Shortcuts for Recalculating and Refreshing Data

You can use the following shortcuts widely in Access to recalculate fields, refresh a Lookup field or drop-down list, or requery a data source.

Recalculate the fields in the window, or refresh a Lookup field or drop-down list

[F9]

Requery the data source to update records

[Shift] - [F9]

Press this shortcut to rerun the current query for the active form or datasheet.

Shortcuts for Taking Widely Used Actions

You can use the following keyboard shortcuts to perform widely used actions in Access.

Display the full URL for the selected hyperlink

[F2]

Display the Zoom dialog box

Use the Zoom dialog box to enter text more easily when working in a small input area.

[Shift] - [F2]

Move forward to the next available view

[Ctrl] - [,] , [Ctrl] - [ ]

This shortcut works in items such as tables, forms, queries, reports, pages, PivotTable lists, PivotChart reports , and Access projects. The views available depend on the item.

[Ctrl] - [.] , [Ctrl] - [ ]
