Chapter 10: Oracle Streams for High Availability

 < Day Day Up >

The Streams documentation is expansive, and we found that we had three documents from Oracle Corporation open at the same time, and would have to switch back and forth frequently to get all the information required. If you are serious about Streams configuration for replication, you will need to read all of the documentation. There's just no way around it. Then, get the pdf files below and keep them handy.

  • Urbano, Randy. Oracle Streams Concepts and Administration, 10g Release 1 (10.1), Oracle Corporation, December 2003.

Along with the Streams Replication Guide, this is hands-down the most important document to have at your side during Streams testing and development. There is no one or two chapters to single out here: you will read this entire thing, most likely. If you want an overview of Streams as an availability partner, go to Chapter 7.

  • Urbano, Randy. Oracle Streams Replication Administrator's Guide, 10g Release 1 (10.1), Oracle Corporation, December 2003.

This documentation covers the implementation of Streams for replicating data from database to database (or even within a database itself). It is required reading. You should know that much of the Streams knowledge is taken for granted, so you will need to review the Streams Admin Guide, as well.
