6.7 Troubleshooting Bluetooth

Because it's new technology, Bluetooth can sometimes be extremely picky about pairing , connecting, and exchanging data. Here are some useful tips for getting Bluetooth to work:

  • Turn Bluetooth off and back on again (for both the Mac and the Bluetooth device).

  • Turn discoverability off and back on again (for both the Mac and the Bluetooth device).

  • In Bluetooth Preferences, delete the paired device and set it up again.

  • On the device, delete the paired Mac. With the T68i, this is done under Bluetooth (2) Linked devices choose the device (2) Delete Yes to delete. With the Palm, this is done under Prefs Communications Bluetooth Trusted Devices choose the device Details . . . Delete Device.

  • Remove and reinstall the Bluetooth adapter, forcing the driver to reload. Obviously, you won't be able to do this if your Mac has a built-in Bluetooth module.

  • If you normally pair devices from the Mac, try initiating the process from the device, and vice versa.

  • Verify that the target device is discoverable and within 30 feet of your Mac.

  • If all else fails, restart your Mac and start the process from the beginning.
