Balancing your checkbook by hand is a pain, especially if you have slacked off for a few months and need to catch up. It's even worse if you've never been in the habit of balancing your checkbook. I know this, because I used to be one of those people. For me, one of the biggest benefits of using Quicken to balance my checkbook was that a chore that often took an hour to do by hand became easy to do in just a few minutes. If you use online banking and turn on Quicken's Auto- Reconcile feature, it can even do the account balancing for you.

Quicken isn't limited to just reconciling your checkbook, however. You can also balance your savings and credit card accounts. In this chapter, you'll learn how to reconcile accounts and resolve any differences between the bank's records and your own.
