To enter a check or deposit, first open the account by clicking it in the Account Bar (Windows). On the Mac, click the Banking tab and choose the account you want from the Registers pop-up menu in the toolbar.
The account register opens with the Date field highlighted and the current date filled in. If you want to change the date, type in a new date or click the calendar icon in the date field to get a pop-up calendar. Click to select a date in the pop-up calendar. You can also use keyboard shortcuts to enter dates. Press the Tab key to get to the Number field. Press d (for deposit), and Quicken will fill in the field with DEP . You can use other keyboard shortcuts to enter transaction types in the Number field, or you can use the pop-up menu in the Number field. Tab and enter the payee (for a check) or a description (for a deposit or transfer). Next , tab across to the Payment or Deposit field and enter the transaction amount.
Press Tab to get to the Category field, then assign a category to the transaction by typing it into the field. The QuickFill feature fills in a category name from your list after you enter the first few letters . You can also use the pop-up menu in the Category field to select a category. Optionally, in the Memo field, enter a memo about the transaction. Press Enter (Return) to save the transaction and add it to the register.
