IN THIS CHAPTER
Most people and small businesses take backup seriously only after their first, or sadly even second, disaster. Even then, perhaps, backup doesn't get the respect it deserves given that the data to be backed up may represent the entire intellectual property and value of a business that took years to build. In the time to recover the backed-up data the entire goodwill of the business or its cash flow can be eroded. Backup is not simple; it needs to be seen in the broader context of business continuity planning and disaster recovery planning. The operative word here is recovery, and it is not, as many would see it, merely a case of copying some files to some media or other that may or may not be stored offsite. |
