Appendix D: Web Resources and Further Reading

One of the most important things for a developer to have is a solid set of references. You can't be expected to memorize every function call or every algorithm. To compensate for imperfect knowledge on the part of the developer, you should cultivate a list of books and Web resources that you can use to quickly find information you need.

Some references are better than others, though. What follows is a list of books and links that I have found useful or interesting. Many of these links will lead you to material that will help you continue your study of Flash and ActionScript. Other links are related to development theory that will help you create games in any language.

Flash Links

The first link I want to give you is a master set of Flash links. There are links to dozens of tutorial sites and sample sites. You could spend days digging through the links on this site alone:

Next is a nice site with Flash-related programs and information:

The preceding site's author also wrote a book about XML in Flash, which can be found at the following:

The next link is a brief explanation of using Flash with PHP and SQL:

An application called swift3d can be used to develop 3D content for Flash:

I have included a simple 3D tutorial on the CD that accompanies this book. You can find it in a directory called Interactive 3d Tutorial. The tutorial was written by Karl Ward (mjaumjau), whose site can be seen at the following link:
