Securing electronic protected health information requires safeguards in accessing, using, monitoring, and disposing electronic devices that store or transmit electronic protected health information. HIPAA divides these safeguards into five areas:
Administrative Safeguards are concerned with implementing the policies and procedures to prevent, detect, and correct security violations
Physical Safeguards are the policies and procedures implemented to limit physical access to the electronic information systems and facility or facilities in which they are housed, while ensuring authorized access is allowed.
