2.2 HIPAA AND OTHER LAWS

Health care practioners are familiar with the need to protect patient confidentiality and accessing only the information necessary to deliver services. State laws and Federal regulations are already in place to address these issues. HIPAA compliments best practices in the health care industry as well as existing legislation. State laws and regulations may be implemented to secure ePHI, if the are more stringent than HIPAA regulations. Covered entities should review all policy and procedure changes with their legal department to verify all regulations are applied consistently and accurately.
