Chapter 15 - Implementing Disk Management

Chapter 15

Under normal circumstances, this would be a combined chapter on disk management and storage. However, with Microsoft Windows 2000 the subject of computer and network storage has become more complex for the administrator while it has become simpler for the user. Windows 2000 Server provides for both local and remote storage and for storage on removable media—all in a way that is completely transparent to the user. After all, the user doesn't really care whether a program or file is stored on disk, on tape, or somewhere on the intranet, as long as it's available when needed. This chapter covers the more traditional disk management tasks that are possible under Windows 2000, and the next chapter takes a look at some of the less traditional methods of storage that are now possible.
