Things to Remember

Striping and labeling your tapes is fundamentally the most important part of the capture process. It ensures that your media can be found with relative ease if any problems arise. Additionally, you can back up a text batch list of all the clips in your project. This list can be used as a reference or it can be imported into another separate project.

Traditional issues relating to capture usually entail problems with your tapes, such as discontinuous timecode or mislabeling. If you have good timecode and proper naming conventions, then all you need to observe is your camera habits and the temperament of DV device issues on your system. The lessons from this chapter provide the groundwork of where to go and what to do to capture and log properly into Premiere Pro.

The next chapter will help you work more efficiently with the clips once they are captured, introducing the display views and functionality of the Project panel.
