Matching Color

To add counterpoint to the image, you ll match the color of the 8 on the billboard to a color from another image:

  1. Choose the Elliptical Marquee tool from the Tool palette. Place the cursor in the center of the top circle of the 8. Click and drag to the right and down, and then press the Option/Alt key to constrain the marquee from the center point. Drag until you ve selected the edge of the 8 (see Figure H5.12). If necessary, press the spacebar as you drag to position the ellipse.

  2. Click the Add To Selection icon. Repeat the process for the bottom part of the 8.

  3. Click the Subtract From Selection icon. Place the cursor in the center of the top part of the 8. Drag downward and to the right. Press the Option key as you drag to constrain the ellipse to the edge of the top inner circle of the 8. Repeat the process for the bottom part of the 8 (see Figure H5.12).

  4. Choose the Rectangular Marquee tool. Click the Subtract From Selection icon. Position the curser next to the left side of the 8 and drag to the inner border of the frame, encompassing the left side of the 8 to deselect it.

  5. Open the file city_street.psd . Choose the Rectangular Marquee tool and drag a selection in a pink area of the McDonalds awning.

  6. Activate big_city_night.psd . Choose Image Adjust Match Color. The Match Color dialog box opens (see Figure H5.13). Be sure the Preview box is checked. Choose city_ street.psd as the source document. Check the Use Selection In Source To Calculate Colors box. Uncheck the Use Selection In Target To Calculate Adjustment box. Set the Luminance slider to 73, the Color Intensity slider to 45, and the Fade slider to 23. Click OK and deselect. Close city_street.psd .

  7. Save.
