Build Low-Fidelity Prototype (Process Notes 5.2.1)

A Low-Fidelity prototype is a simulation model that is drawn by hand. Its aim is to bring alive those aspects of the system that are related to the objective of the prototype.

The following types of models might be suitable:

  • A detailed event/use case model

  • A scenario model for the event/use case

  • An entity/state model

  • A context diagram

  • A sketch of a screen layout

  • A playthrough of a product use case scenario

Modify the prototype to respond to the usage feedback. This feedback results from using the prototype with the user(s). Ideally, the prototype is actually built with the user's assistance, in which case this task is done in parallel with the task "Test prototype with users," and the usage feedback is immediate.

Keep track of the effort involved in building the prototype; this information provides input for doing estimates for the later phases of the project.
