7.6 Rollout Schedule (RS)

 < Day Day Up >

The Rollout Schedule is a top-level timeline document indicating the schedule to be used for rolling out the application to all user groups. This is especially important for phased rollouts. Major activities are usually planned around the Rollout Schedule because implementation teams commonly tend to work backward from the Rollout Schedule to determine how to accomplish their tasks. It is common practice for teams to squeeze lag or lead time into a project from the top-level schedule. This is done because it is well-known in project management circles that things only go as planned on the surface. Although the duck looks like it is calm and serene on the surface, beneath the surface, imagine the duck's feet paddling as quickly as possible to keep the duck afloat and moving forward! That analogy is not unlike the project management team's shared experience.
