Figure 4.1 depicts the SEP Phase III roadmap. The steps outlined in the Detailed Design Phase are centered around detailing every aspect of the project. From the original analysis and planning performed in Phase II, the Project Manager should direct his or her team through a guided process of generating exact specifications to meet product requirements. The resulting specifications documents should be verified with the user in a review process before to the next project phase is initiated.

The deliverables checklist (Figure 4.2) below is reviewed by the Core Team to help decide which deliverables, by phase, are required for a particular project. You may have noticed that the left-most column seen in Figure 4.2 represents those deliverables that are required for any project. The column to the right of that allows the Core Team the flexibility to choose whether a particular deliverable is relevant to the project it is working on. This customization matrix allows for a high degree of flexibility in project execution, but it also enforces a high degree of consistency in projects underway throughout the SPMO environment. Such consistency ultimately saves money in an organization and creates efficiencies that allow for faster execution and better understanding of project methodology.
