During the course of your career managing projects, you are going to endure some stress. Pressures come in from all directions. At the end of the day, there are only three things to worry about: time, money, and resources. There is an old adage about these being much like the dials on an old radio, as is illustrated in Figure 10.2:

It does not matter which dial you turn up or down, the other two dials are affected by that action. Such is the life of a Project Manager. The pressures faced during execution of a project always boil down to one of these three issues. Managing these at their most basic level, rather than getting wrapped up in the details of specific reasons why one of these three areas is a problem, will certainly cause ulcers. Bottom line: Reduce the problem to its most basic element and then solve that issue. That mitigates pain.
