Hiding, Showing, and Deleting Deformers

If you're done editing your deformers, or if you just want to view your scene without them, you can hide them for your view. Only the deformer handles will be hidden, so you'll still be able to see the effects of the deformers on your models. You can also delete a deformer, either to remove its deformation from an object, or to make its deformation a part of the mesh itself. This removes your ability to edit the deformation's attributes, but it may speed up manipulation of your scene.

To delete a deformer:

1.

Select the deformer handle of the deformer you wish to delete (Figure 13.65).

Figure 13.65. This plane has had a wave deformer applied to it. The deformer's handle is selected.

2.

Select Edit > Delete, or press .

The deformer is deleted, and any effect it had on the object it was applied to is removed (Figure 13.66).

Figure 13.66. By deleting the wave deformer handle, the plane is restored to its undeformed state.

To delete a deformer while keeping its deformations on a surface:

1.

Select the object with the deformer you wish to delete.

2.

Select Edit > Delete by Type > History.

The deformer is deleted, but the object remains in its deformed position (Figure 13.67).

Figure 13.67. By using Delete by Type > History, the wave deformer is removed while its effects on the plane are retained.

To hide or show deformers in a view:

  • From the view's Show menu, select Deformers.

If this option is selected, it becomes deselected, and deformers are hidden for that view. If it's deselected, it becomes selected, and deformers are displayed for that view.

Tips

  • You can use the Hide > Hide Deformers and Show > Show Deformers submenus of the Display menu to hide or show deformers in all views. You can also select specific deformer object types to hide or show in these submenus.
