Create and Use Bookmarks

Tip

Here's a sneaky little tip for downloading an image from a web page. Tap and hold on any image with the stylus for a second or two. A Save Image screen opens, which you use to save the image on your device. Just select where you'd like to save the image (Pics&Videos application or storage card), and it's downloaded and stored on your device.

Bookmarks play an important role in Web browsing by allowing you to easily organize and revisit memorable web pages. Your Treo ships with a few bookmarks to get you started, and you might have already stumbled across them. Bookmarks are similar in many ways to Favorites, which are also used to organize memorable information, but bookmarks are limited solely to Web addresses. Additionally, bookmarks are accessed only in the Blazer application. The Blazer application actually consists of two main views: Page view and Bookmarks view. You access the bookmarks on your device by switching from Page view (the default) to Bookmarks view.

To access the bookmarks stored on your device, follow these steps:

1.

Press the Menu button, and then scroll down to and select the Bookmarks View menu command (or Menu+V). The Bookmarks screen opens, as shown in Figure 10.5.

2.

You'll notice in Figure 10.5 that three bookmarks are stored on my device, and there is room on the screen for a total of 10 bookmarks. If you look down in the lower-right corner of the screen, you'll see a series of boxes for accessing additional banks of bookmarks10 totalthus allowing you to store up to 100 bookmarks on your device. Try tapping these boxes to navigate through the bookmark storage areas.

3.

There are two ways to add a new bookmark to the list of bookmarks. The first approach is to use the Add Bookmark command from the Page menu while viewing the page you'd like to bookmark. This approach is the most efficient, as it automatically grabs the page's URL and name without requiring you to type anything. The other approach is tapping a blank entry in the bookmark list. If you tap a blank entry, the New Bookmark screen opens, as shown in Figure 10.6.

Tip

The Backspace key on the keyboard serves as a handy shortcut for the Back command.

4.

To enter a new bookmark in the New Bookmark screen, simply enter the name, description, and URL. When you tap the URL field, the Set URL screen opens and assists you in entering the URL with a default URL prefix and the familiar suffix helper boxes. When you're finished entering the bookmark information, tap the OK button to finalize its creation. The bookmark is then added to the bookmark list, as shown in Figure 10.7.

Note

You might not be able to delete some of the default bookmarks that are initially set on your device. These built-in bookmarks are fixed and cannot be modified or deleted.

5.

You can edit a bookmark in the list by selecting the bookmark and tapping the Edit button. To delete a bookmark, you must tap the Edit button first, and then tap the Delete button in the Edit Bookmark screen.

Bookmarks are a great way to remember websites and help organize your favorites for frequent access. You'll find that your bookmark list changes over time as you explore new sites and tire of older ones.
