Ningbo is situated on the eastern coast of China in the north-east of Zhejiang Province. Its north-east and centre sit in an alluvial plain criss-crossed by rivers. The total area of Ningbo is 9,365 square kilometres, of which 5,021 square kilometres are mountainous areas. The population is 5.4335 million. Major economic indicators are shown in Table 7.38.1.
