In 2000, Guizhou approved a total of 55 FDI contracts, involving a total investment of US$67.38 million. Contracted investment in 2000 increased by less than 1 per cent, only a little more than in 1999. The FDI in solely foreign-owned enterprises more than tripled while investment in contractual joint ventures dropped by 66.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis (see Table 7.24.4).

Among the 55 FDI projects approved in 2000, 44 were production-orientated while 11 projects were service- related . Foreign direct investments came from 18 countries and regions , with the main ones being Singapore with contracted investment of US$1.01 million, Hong Kong (US$27.40 million), the USA (US$13.09 million), Taiwan Province (US$1.63 million), the British Virgin Islands (US$480,000), France (US$540,000) and Canada (US$5.71 million).
The total export and import value of the operating FIEs in 2000 amounted to US$40.12 million and US$16.78 million respectively.
