Guizhou is situated on the eastern part of Yunnan- Guizhou Plateau, criss-crossed by high mountains and rolling hills. The whole province is known as the Guizhou Plateau. Topographically, it is divided into three zones: the western plateau, the central hilly highland and the northern mountainous area. Guizhou's total area is 176,167 square kilometres and the population is 37.9851 million. The provincial capital is Guiyang. Major economic indicators are shown in Table 7.24.1.
